Kid Friendly Coffee Shops

Coffee, mmmm. The elixir of Gods. The savior of the non-morning person. The gas of the mass(es). Ugh, sorry. Seriously, though, we love coffee.

As I’ve gotten older, I’ve become more and more of a morning person and, for me, nothing beats getting up before everyone in the house, gliding to the kitchen, brewing up a pot or ripping an espresso, and kicking back on the couch with a cup of hot coffee. Throw in an early morning Premier League game and…oh boy!

That said, sometimes you want to get out of the house for either a morning cup or a midday pick-me-up – with kids. Take a gander at our recommendations for the top kid friendly coffee spots in town.

  • Cherrywood Coffeehouse – our go to spot for coffee and music with the kid. There’s a regularly scheduled music hour for the kids on the weekends, delicious food with a menu that’s robust and an outdoor, fenced-in, seating area where kiddos can hang. 1400 East 38th 1/2 Street, Austin, TX 78722
  • Brentwood Social House – two play areas, one inside and one outside, a small but tasty menu and a cozy seating area inside if that’s your jam with the kids. Lots of kid friendly activities scheduled throughout the year. 1601 W Koenig Lane, Austin, TX 78756

  • Halcyon Mueller – have found the space itself to be less than kid friendly for our kid, given his age, but perfectly a-okay for older kids that can sit still. The big win here is that it’s literally 20 steps from Thinkery and the giant playground + park that is Mueller. 1905 Aldrich Street, Austin, TX 78723

  • Radio Coffee & Beer – cool South Austin spot that’s often packed, both with kids, families and adults, on any given day. Another spot that does Austin right by including a heavy dose of music. Makes sense given the owner is Jack Wilson! 4204 Manchaca Road, Austin, TX 78704

  • Flitch Coffee – cozy little spot on the east side that’s generally hemmed in, outside of the entrance which makes it easier to manage the kids. Coffee, tacos and pastries to hit the spot. The shop is an old Airstream which is pretty cool. 641 Tillery Street, Austin, TX 78702
  • The Hive – way far south, or at least for those not down there already, this spot nails one of the What Makes as Place Kid Friendly scoring criteria: a fenced in area, yes! Love the outdoor garden area and space overall – very cute. 10542 Menchaca Road, Austin, TX 78748

  • Ani’s Day and Night – come for the coffee at coffee time with the kids, either hand them off or even stick around with them for the beers and cocktails later on. Deep East, food trucks, huge lot, fantastic owners, great spot – day and night! 7107 E Riverside Drive, Austin, TX 78741
